Track Lighting
Afternoon All,
I am just after a standard / normal height for offroad track light poles.
I am in the process of costing some for our track and all suppliers have asked the same question.
Even any expeirences you guys have had with installation or setup or even costing.
Any help would be much appreachiated.

It all depends on the type of light you are using and the area you are covering. The supplier should be able to work it out for you (or have access to a sales rep that can) if not, i'd go somewhere else. All you should have to do is supply them the overall dimensions and tell them what you want to do.
I'm in the signage game and we often get our suppliers to tell us exactly what we need to light up a certain area. They usually go back to their suppliers who supply all sorts of options and price ranges. One you work out what lights are suitable (price range is usually the deciding factor) then you can work out how high they need to go and how many of them you'll need.
Generally bigger more expensive lights can go higher which means you require less. Smaller cheaper lights go lower but you need more of them.
Sorry i cant be more help but personally i would leave it up to experts to tell you what you need.

I'm no electrician either , but I'd have said 2 poles up to 10 metres tall with 3 lights per pole (2 for the track , 1 for the pits). One pole at the south west corner , the other at the north west corner (so there are no lights in the drivers eyes.)
And with a hinged system to be able to lower them for repairs etc.

Are these for a permantant sturture or do you wants the lights removalable, if removalable get hold of some Factory lighting 400w high pressure sodium globes or Metal Halide and tranformers (Ballasts), don't laugh but go in and see a hydroponics place or even a cash converters type store, my old man used to make the reflectors and his parther maked the ballasts for them, we have one at my mums backyard and it lights up her whole yard + the neighbours on all sides it been there for at least 40yrs that i know of and still works fine and it only about 12 ft of the ground
