Vintage transam on the gold coast
Looking to try and get a bit of interest for running vintage transam on the gold coast at gilston.
Would be touring cars (4wd or front wheel drive) with treaded tyres and any body as long as it is not a race body ,Mazda 6,DNA etc.
Not sure on motor limits yet till it gets going, may just bring in a max top speed.
Anyone interested let me know

I am in the process of trying to get the timing equipment etc for gilston from the club.
in the states they run 25.5 for vintage trans-am and 21.5 for rcgt.
with some wanting 17.5 and 13.5 for larger tracks.
the gilston track being rather large would be good i suspect for 17.5.
if i get enough interest we could decide as a group on motor choice.
both 17.5 and 21.5 are easy to come by.
with the use of tread-ed (non belted) tyres and scale looking bodies would make having faster motors possibly useless.
i will be doing some testing in the next couple weeks with motors and tread-ed tyres up gilston to get a idea.

Hi Steven
I hope you guys dont get the wrong idea, its great you guys are using the track.
I am just worried the track will be turned into a car park with out it being used by a gold coast club.
it seems that people are happy to go to mekin etc and not so interested in the gold coast,so i thought i would try some thing different.
also it wont take away from the clubs that race tc,if people start out in vta and want some thing faster or more competitive its just change tyres/body and go race with you guys or at mekin.will try and run it so it does not coincide with mekin and lismore.
the vta and rcgt are getting big in the u.s and hoping it will appeal to some people here

Chris any help would be much appreciated.
i have not run a tc chassis since the first year that gilston was built.
What i would like to do is get some regular meets going that dont conflict with other clubs, but also offer some thing the other clubs dont run, plus keep it very low budget racing for new people to get into and people with existing race cars to basically change tyres and body and there set.
i have seen both tc 21.5 and 17.5 cars run up at gilston,to me 21.5 is rather slow (on a larger track) but i am not sure how 17.5 will go with tread-ed tyres,or if tyre wear will be excessive.
speeds with tread-ed tyres and a 21.5 maybe well suited

found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3FQ50EuiWg not the best quality, but there running vta in western Australia, using 17.5 but with a limit on the FDR.
also need to find what would be better VTA or RCGT
lot more bodies to choose from in GT,plus much easier to come buy.but there is some real nice vintage trans-am bodies available.
some RCGT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DxpxO1YpUI

In WA we allow the Australia Muscle cars as well... We have changed our 6.0 FDR limit rule to a minimum lap time, of 24sec the FDR limit was a good idea to start the series off but the so many different ESC's the top speeds varied greatly depending on which ESC you had in your car.
We outlawed the use of boost timing esc's etc, the minimum lap time is a great way to keep the racing close its self policed if you break out you loose a lap.. it allows the guys without the good lines to make it up in the straight and battle it out in the corners with the more skilled..
Control tires really make the class I seriously recommend using the HPI tires the guys run with in the states, the local importer brings in plenty of stock so there is no issues with supply generally.

I kicked the VTA series off in WA and myself and couple others nutted it out and got a happy rules set in place based around the US series with the 17.5's but limiting the speeds. 17.5's will over power the VTA tires rather easily.

i like the idea of not breaking a certain lap time,it allows a little leeway
i want some thing thats cheap for people to get into and run, with out burning out gear.
our track is fairly large and a bit of speed on the straight would be nice
i am fairly sure one of our lhs (rc hobbies burleigh) has the hpi rims/tyres
and some bodies.
