Yes i should give heavy credit for the lap idea as its been run very well at the yeronga club.I want to see new racers start this sport and by no means do i think 540 is for beginers only. Some of the best races i have had has been in the 540 class with 5 or 6 cars nose to tail the whole race.

It is interesting to see the views of posters here about 540. How is the 540 class handled in most clubs? At Boronia you can only have a plastic tub chassis, so the 540 class is pretty well mostly Tamiya TL01, TT01 or TA04S chassis. It was getting to the point that people with carbon fibre chassis, even with the restriction in gear ratio, were walking all over the plastic tub chassises ran by kids.

I think what evolved at Yeronga was very successful as the novices had the chance to duke it out amongst themselves without worrying about getting out of the way of the fast guys all teh time and the fast guys had the chance at some very close and hard racing without the slower cars to bother with. We never saw the need to impose any chassis restrictions on Novice.

Personally agree that it should be split because at the end of the day encourageing the young and the new is paramount.

How kind of someone to call me " middleaged " what a compliment.

Actually I just had a quick check of the Vortec rules and notice that they have split into 540 and 540 Pro - they have not imposed chassis restrictions but have a gearing restriction on the 540 class - interesting but don't think we need go that far yet.

I agree with Heavy (middle aged and wise)

Spitting the classes is a good idea but maybe the "pro" class should run the sports tuned motor as this is the min spec motor for a TA04-R and these motors are reasonably cheap and go like the clappers slightly slower and less maintenance than stock. LEts face it we are RACERS looking for more speed on a budget

Yes you got me there, the main three classes are 540 stock and mod in elctric. so i doubt that if you introduce a new class with a new motor that it would become big

Hi Richard
You are only introducing something that is already there, that is "pro class"(just not recognised)all that is needed is agreement on using the sports tuned motor. Boy wouldn't that be fun. You already have Joel exited and myself about this concept there is a start Remember a seed has to be planted before a tree can grow this is the seed 540 SPORTS TUNED

You would find Sports Tuned as a class more expensive than stock. The motors don't last and they aren't rebuildable.

that changes everything, if it cost more than stock why not make it stock or leave it at 540
