Default Do speedies "just" blow up?

Yesterday I smoked one of my LRP V7.1's in my B4. Nothing apparent shorted out, wasn't plugged in backwards, I hadn't touched the car since it was raced at Maitland Cup 3 weeks previously, put a battery in, turned it on, gave it some throttle and once on the track it just shutdown with lots of smoke, melted the case - so basically it is stuffed.

Like I said I checked it all out and couldnt see anything obvious that would blow up a speedy, the chassis is not graphite either, so my question is can they just blow up from an internal fault. The speedy is about 4 years old and has ran faultlessly all its life

Cheers
Molky

Talking

I know in the old tekin manuals ,they had a warning about dirt build up in the cases causing shorting on the circuit board, moisture and elements of metals in the soil.

I clean all my radio out at least once a month, receiver, speedy, and servo.
You would be amazed how much dirt gets in side.

It must work , I still have a Tekin 410k in my 4wd, and never had a problem.

Good luck.

I saw at least one story of a quantum burning up, and they are waterproof. Does waterproof == dustproof? I would have though so, or is this not the case?

If so, then its just about certain to be dodgy electronics..

Just on that, I think we know where LRP got the phrase "blue is better" from, Blue flames are better than Yellow ones!

I'm not bashing LRP, I've been using them since I started racing, I had a V6 blow up when a friend wired it up wrong, but other than that they've been great so far, I just really want to know what caused this one to go bang. The speedy in my 4wd is going on 5 years old and still goes strong

Speedies are subject to the second law of thermodynamics and therefore will go out spectacularly, it happens to them all. Bloody entropy gets in to everything.

its funny for me because i have had a novak for about 3yrs now and it was about 2yrs old when i bought it. i have never had to clean it out or re-wire it or anything like that.

and i have never experenced an esc blow up only one of my friends manual speedies.

so i would like to know what does make speedies just go 'poof' and blow up. if any one can give me and most likly others out their a simple explanation why?????

I think the smaller they are the more chance of problems.
