Default A question regarding prices- and online stores

Hi all.

Just curious.

When you see a price from an online store in Australia do you see it as the total cost OR do you automatically think "oh I've got to add the 10% GST on top".

Reason why I ask is cause after dealing with a online store in Australia (wont be naming any names) and spent weeks calling, emails, etc they've given me a total package and then slugged me with an extra 10% on top!

Reason why I ask is cause I was spending over 1k on it and 10% does add up, and being my very first R/C every bit counts.

Since when do you go into shops/see advertisements and quote customers prices that do not include GST? Seems odd!

Maybe things are run differently because its an 'online' store?

Well it was a gobsmack in the face when they had failed to mention that the prices quoted were PRE GST, and not only stuff my order up (again)

This happened to anyone else? or am I just being stoopid?

Online shops i've seen clearly state that the price doesn't include GST. Surely there'd be laws on making the customer aware of that before they buy.. Online shops might not want to list the price including GST because if they send an order overseas GST doesn't apply..

Fair enough!

I did however look on all the pages to see if it clearly stated whether or not the prices include GST- but couldnt find anything.

That online store has definately left a sour taste in my mouth!

Only shops which have an ABN and are registered for GST are to charge you the GST. At your purchase they are also legally obliged to give you an official Tax Invoice.

If they have no ABN and are not registered for GST then it is ILLEGAL for them to charge you GST.

Default ah

Well they're definately registered business with ABN etc.

Im aware of all that stuff, but I was under the impression (being an online store in Australia) that prices listed on their sites should have GST included unless of course it has been stated otherwise.

Which I can not seem to find

why didnt you just "say" something to them.

iam sure "they" - the only other place you have been typing in the forumn, would have an answer for you.. dont drag it into the publick and try stuff around with a new shop trying to help racers in australia.

your quote , "Very quick response to emails, honest and very helpful". " if this was a fact.. you just have to ask them."

we now all know who your talking about piggy, and you dont have to name names to make it look bad. which iam sure there not, i have seen the profecialism and its great.

go ask them....

Just to clarify our process regarding GST issues -

RC Master includes GST in all prices shown on the web site. The invoice you receive at the end of the transaction clearly states that the 10% is included and that there is no mistake or confusion during the purchase.

And for everyone's information, RC Master was not the online site that Piggy was referring to that slamed the 10% on at the end.

RC Master prides itself on good service and accurate pricing. Of course this may sound strange for those who have dealt with the other online sites that just haven't been able to deliver or go to the efforts that we put into this business.

So, please do not group us with our competitors. Such bad reputations will only destroy us, and our ability to provide excellent prices, services and support to RC lovers around Australia.

Kind regards,

The Manager

Perhaps some clarification from Piggy is required, as I made exactly the same (incorrect) conclusion as Painy did...that he was referring to RCMaster...

Piggy...?

On the tax note, isnt it illegal to advertise a retail price that does not include the GST, for a store with a ABN number.

BG,

You are correct. By law you are to disclose all GST or other tax, handling costs, etc so that the buyer is not mislead.

In addition to this, we are implimenting Bpay which keeps credit information away from our site, and adds further security for the user.

Common sense prevails - if the web site is simple to use, maintains the security of the buyer, and discloses all hidden costs, then the confidence of the consumer is increased.

People sometimes don't realise just how difficult online sales is - as you have to get past the confidence factor first and foremost!

Default whoa!

Whoa sorry guys/gals!

I didnt mean for any harm towards rcmasters at all.

I also did not want to mention the online store in question due to legal reasons.

I must clarify that this post has nothing to do with rcmasters, I have have nothing but praise for the them!

As a matter of fact I will be purchasing my TRF415 from rcmasters along with other goodies.

Why? well they've provided me with helpful and honest, answered all questions and concerns I had raised, and not only quote me excellent prices but top prices that include GST! Lol

Look, I have complete faith with rcmasters, and this is not a plug for them Im just giving you my honest opinion. Definately a store worth looking into.

Hope that clarifies everything and I apologise if this has made people upset. Its hard sometimes, to convey what you're truly trying to say or mean on the internet!

The taxation is department is quite clear on this subject.

When a consumer or end user is buying a product from a retailer (online or not) all prices quoted MUST inc GST.

This is different when you have a business to business (B2B) transaction where they can (and do) quote EX GST prices.

It is probably too late BUT I would make the ATO aware of this situation and they will have someone help and educate the retailer in question.

Default A question

Isnt it funny how RCMASTER, Piggy & Ratter were all registered in March 2004 & the only posts any of them seem to make is in this or the RCMASTER thread?

Such a transparent way to promote yourselves!
