Standard motor for like novice racing or pro.

price starts from about 15 dollars.
No they are not better than the tamiya. Mabuchi motors. This is what i heard as they (mabuchi) seem to have more torque. Or something like that.

They are found at the local hobbyshop.

Hope it helps

Johnno usually have higher rpm whie the mabuchi's have more torque, be aware that a mabuchi is NOT considered a johhno stock motor

Tamiya kits include JOHNSON motors too, they're the ones without the round gold "Mabuchi RS-540SH" sticker.

Mabuchi motors are different to Johnson motors, Tamiya kits come with Mabuchi NOT a johnson.

Mahbuchis have a bright silver can while johnnos are a dull metal colour.

Also the end bells are different, mabuchis have a metal endbell while johhnos have a plastic and some metal.

Tamiya sells both johnson and mabuchi motors. A johnson has *JOHNSON* stamped in the base of the can. Personally I use a johnson and it's got crap all torque but is fast once you gear the hell out of it(5.8 ogr).

Yep, 'JOHNSON' stamped on the chromed can, also the "J" symbol stamped on the endbell.

They have appeared in many of our Tamiya kits; Tamiya supplies both Johnsons and Mabuchis interchangeably, has been doing so from day dot.

Interestingly... Tamiya is selling 540 motors now in brown paper boxes!!
Its a new official #53xxx HopUp Option...

They are about $22.00 retail and they are lableing them a Tamiya "J' motor. Don't know if that means they are a Johnno or something else, a few people I know are saying that thye are better than the standard kit motor. I know that George at Castle Hill Hobbies was saying he got 5 in and was sold out in a day with people telling him they are better. I have ordered one as well to make a call for myself. But yes they are in a "Brown Box" which I guess in itself makes em faster LOL.

LOL. Still a brown box?
Couldn't it be more creative. Maybe a blue box. Or something saying JOHNO!!!!
just a brown box?
lol
Maybe a red ribbon around it should make it look nice.
Does anyone have a pic of this Tamiya johno?

I stand corrected then, though I've never seen a tamiya kit come through work with a Johnson in in, only mabuchi's, oh well, learn somethign new everyday

Just to make sure there is no confusion.

For Queensland racers.

For racing in Queensland there is B]ONLY ONE[/B] motor allowed in 540 class and that is the Johnson GREY METAL end bell motor.

The reference to 683 in the rule book is the Dawn Trading catalogue number for this motor.
