Hey,

I am just starting out in Onroad Touring EP Class and was wondering what the best 17.5 Motor & ESC combo most people are using.

Cheers

LRP Stock Spec or Tekin RS Esc or KO BMC or Team Wave RB Series

and the Duo series of motors are winners hands down.

Fantom, Express Motors etc are all duo motors that are re labeled so anything thats duo based and your set

Don't forget the Team Wave speed control. TQ and 2nd at the Nationals. Even the winner of the event wants to try one he was so impressed by it.

Darren used a RB30. Both RB30's and 50's perform the same but the RB50 has a fan and ability to run Mod. The RB30 has been used to win races in 10.5. If you run 10.5 in hot conditions you will need a fan on a RB30 or you could play it safe with RB50. For 17.5 the RB30 is all you need.

The RB30 retails in OZ for about AU$150! Thats good value.

Paul, I picked an RB30 up today - no, not a Nissan 3 litre six,but a Team Wave speedy.

Any chance you can give me some suggestions for setting it up for stock and super stock ?
Both motors are Duo 1s.
Thanks,
Michael.

Here is what I run. I use this at windsor but it was good at Whalan too.

Neutral Brake(Drag Brake) 1 = 0% (this is personal)
Brake Force 4 = 100% Then dial down a bit with radio
Turbo 1 = ON (Very important)
Timeshift 3
Drive Profile 5 (I plan to go to 7 next time out)
Brake profile 7
Temp Cut 5 = Off
Lipo cut 7 = Off
Motor Type 1 = Brushless forward only

10.5 rollout 38mm
17.5 rollout 50mm

Please be aware that those rollouts are high and you should try a 2 minute run then temp your motor then another 2 minutes and so on. On a high traction night you will put more load on your motor and need to gear down 1 or 2mm and if you crash a lot that also puts more load on your motor every time you pull away from a stop. Not wanting to be rude but thats what your signature says I do hope you supported our good friends at WHRC and not that person parallel importing them?

as no combo has been mentioned here

you cant go past Tekin

tekin rs and tekin redline 17.5

and with its currant software it is very competitive never mind it next step

which is soon to be released

were the teamwave is updatable but they have decided to release a new speedy instead... the RB30-S

Dont see his sig saying anything about crashing You have got the wrong person

With the current crop of ESC's you simply have to decide which way you want to go.

With a company that actually provides updates to the firmware or with a company that says it will have upgrades and doesn't and then releases a new ESC when apparently the older ESC can take the upgrade.

For the high quality and best support from the factory you cant go past Tekin

One more Q: What timing on the motor ? I have the Duo 1 motors.

I may own two Xrays, but that doesn't mean I enjoy crashing- that's more Tailend Racer's thing! Check HIS sig.....

Yes , I picked the esc and card up from WHRC yesterday ( Where I buy 80-90 % of my gear). spoke to the Splitman about it a little.

So I can now compare this to my SPX........ It's substantially cheaper , so this will be interesting !! Thanks again for your help, it looks like i'm ALLOWED out this friday too.

Fleety.....

I would agree that the tekin rs is a great esc. However myself and many others have had bad experiences with the 17.5t redline. They just cant handle temps like other motors. For example my redline loses around 10% in performance when it hits 70+ degrees whereas my duo/speed passion v3 and novak all handle 90+ degrees. To be competitive you need a motor you can push and the redlines performance at temperature makes it not a good choice in my opinion.

I am currently running a tekin rs with a speed passion v3 17.5t and it is awesome. Perhaps not quite as fast as the duo 2 but it is mighty close! I tend to find the speed passion holds less temp than the duo2 and cools much quicker. It is also a little more consistent throughout a run.

I run my 10.5 DUO 1 on 0deg. Darren runs his 17.5 DUO 2 at 5deg. I would start at 0 then when you feel you are happy with all other setting try 10 with slightly lower gearing. I will be at windsor friday and will be happy to help.

Sorry about that whole crash thing. Who look stupid now! But it is a good point that some people don't realize. Crashing makes your motor run a little hotter.
