TRANS AM RACING

TRANS AM RACING
I have started this thread to look at advancing the Trans Am class.
At present there are a couple of clubs running trans am that I am aware of,
those being Castle Hill and ACT.
The class was run at the ACT Indoor Titles on the weekend and it was shown that there is some interest in the class. It would be good to hear from any people that are running the class at their local track and what rules they are
running.
The rules we are running allow the use of 540 motors or 21.5 brushless, HPI vintage wheels and tyres and pre 80's bodies.

Bob, there is no official class yet at Windsor, but there is some interest for sure.
There are a few guys with the shells and wheels, just more a matter of getting the class rolling.
I reckon its a great second class, where you can have a laugh together.... And the cars actually look real drifting a little through the tight turns.
21.5s are great . Most regular racers who have made the change love the lack of maintenance.
When our current point score finishes,I want to run my 21.5 car solely in TRANS AM guise.
There are some VERY cool bodies out there.....I want to get a Plymouth Superbird.
I saw one when I was around 5/6 years old in someone's front yard and remember it vividly....
oh that rear ironing board, I mean spoiler, lol.
There is also a Pontiac Firebird newly available too !!
Michael Brown.

Rod, I reckon the class would need to be regularly run at all clubs first in all fairness...perhaps as a drivers championship class initially ?
.
And agree with you on using those old "yesterdays " chassis that so many people have.

The rules at this time is that you have to run a pre 80's body on a standard touring chassi. The weight is the standard 1500 grams. At this time the motor rules it that you can use 540, sport tune or 21.5 brushless motor. Also you have to run HPI classic tyres, rims and inserts.
The trans- am class won't be run at Bathurst but we will see about next year. I am pretty sure that there won't be an more comp this year other than club competitions at Castle Hill, ACT and by the sound of it Windsor.
There is a good showing at ACT last weekend as seen on WIN local news ACT.

that would be right, i sell off all of my touring car stuff & now there's talk of maybe running this class at club challenge next year
i think it would be a great class to run as a demo at major events, always fun to watch & more fun to drive.
sounds like a good excuse to by another car

some of the guys from c/hill have used hq monaro's, slr 5000, xy gt's & have also seen r/t chargers, not sure what brand there are but they were
purchased from Grahams hobbies in st marys.
HPI bodies are hard to beat though, tough bodies & very cool

Does anyone know of a stockist for the HPI bodies ? Apparently the importers are out of stock.

I know of R/C hobbies generally keep them, Barclay's in Prenrith normally stock them and I got my last few from Harris R/C. I think I got the last cuba and camero but I think they had mustangs left. There is a new stingray corvet out as well. I assume you have tried Frontline in Newcastle. Point to remember on carpet use 6 month worn old tire , Bob and I had nothing for two days out of the three at canberra "I think it was called control drift" but by shear chance changed to old worn out tires on Sunday and Bob up with the front runners.
