That sucks.

Well, here is a bump to keep the thread alive.

Looking forward to this event. All I have to do is join a club now!

Yeah, I guess we'll have to press on without the support of the powers that be.
It's a shame that the clubs aren't being supported to run events that keep the clubs alive.

Maybe we should start a new thread with all the info in the first post and try to get important status for that?
The way it is now it starts off as a discussion rather than an official looking thread about it.

Or perhaps a more official Title

"2009 NSW Off-Road Club Series"

I was just thinking the same thing.

A new thread title, and the first post outlaying the event and website.

After all this thread starts on the wrong foot.

We need this topic as important otherwise it is going to roll off into the wilderness between meets.

Time to stir up the hornets nest.

Isn't this somewhat discouraging for novices and the majority in general? For those of us who aren't top level drivers, spending a day (and $30) doing time trials offers little incentive to join in the fun.

If time is the issue, are there other alternatives to allow each class to run a final at the end of the day?

Some ideas off the top of my head:
  • Drop a round of qualifying from each class
  • Each class runs a single final (assuming finals consist of more than one run)
  • Limit entries to a single class per person (if it will reduce the number of races run on the day)

Must admit, I'm fairly new to racing and this will be my first Club Challenge. Not trying to break the establishment and I am totally ignorant of any formality / tradition with the event. Just thought it would be nice if all competitors were treated equally, regardless of skill. Well, the A class would get bigger trophies but that's a given

I know where you're coming from Leo, but here are some answers to your list

If we drop a round of qualifying, it only leaves us with 2 rounds of qualifying, which is just not enough to be able to determine a grid really

Single finals, again, knowing the potential dramas that u can have in racing, 1 final would really not satisfy those who have put in the good effort to make the A, it becomes something of a lottery

i suggested that we limit entries to one class per driver, but i was hounded down with calls that it will decrease the clubs income from the day, which is true, and i suppose its right, this question has sort of been flying around for a while as to what we do with the numbers, in there end, no one could come up with a viable solution

In reality, the B's and C's will most likely be run, i dont think there has been a challenge cup where we havnt run them, really its an escape clause if weather effects us, and its also an incentive for people to get themselves ready for their race well in time and back out to marshall asap, then the day runs smoothly and we wont have dramas

The only other solution is to limit entries somehow, but there have been a bunch of suggestions on how to do it, not one has really been agreed upon, i guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, we've been able to get through the racing efficiently in the past, the last few off road events the numbers have been a little down anyway so it just may not turn out to be a big drama

Hey Leo,

Mikey has covered most of it.
The only reason these interim measures are put in place is to have an alternative plan should there be some interruptions, shortage of light, Technology problems and the like.
We haven't had to drop many finals in the past but we need to consider in advance what steps will be taken should there be an act of god.
Additionally, Ryde round has the shortest daylight hours and should we need too, the 'C' finals for stock will be dropped.
We want everyone to get value for money where possible but at the end of the day, we also need to get results.

Ah, so if time is available, C finals will be run on the day?

I think the way your post is worded, it sounds like C finals will not be run regardless of available time:

"There will be no 'C' Finals and if time is short, 'B' finals will be dropped and points will count where qualified."

On a different note, anyone able to send me Google map links to the various tracks? I plan to add them to the website in the venues section.

LS,

Good point.
I have reworded the description so it is a little clearer.
