question on crystals
Hi guys,
I am using a KO 29 AM crystal on a futaba 27 receiver. it works.
will there be any disadvantage? is so, what will be wrong?
Tx is KO EX7

You can use most receivers with a KO transmitter (apart from the new 'type-R') with no problems at all. You have to use KO xtals in both TX & RX though if you try futaba xtals in the tx or RX it won't work.
I have used KO, Novak, LRP, Futaba, Jeti and Hi-Tec receivers with a KO transmitter without problems.

i would have thought that using 29meg xtals in 27meg gear was fraught with danger... although i have seen it done - but it did not stand up to a "busy" RF environment
here is another interesting finding - use of "am" xtals in an fm radio - this was an accident but the radio worked a whole race mtting with out missing a beat - is there any difference between am and fm xtals?
i use ko or futaba xtals in ko and or futaba gear with no worries (but keep the bands the same ie: 29meg in 29meg gear etc)
ive also used a hitec hfs 03mm rx with my mars r with no problems (ko xtals)

But running radio gear on the wrong band Detunes it, you'll
find that when you do a rangecheck your range is severely
reduced - you might not even reach the far edge of your track.
Some of the ancient KO radio TXes emit very high RF strengths,
so this might improve range a bit. But I think the EX7 (1989?)
was one of the first narrow-band KOs, which don't have as
high RFs as the older 1982 EX1.

thanks, william, i will try the range, then tell everybody teh result. thanks anyway.. that will stop me to test it and crash it.
i will let him know, do not play it yet.

Yes it "works", especially on your workbench.

the range should be remain the same, since. the TX is 29. and crstals is 29
the range is practically is still the same as before.
only the RX is 27 using 29 crystal. anyway, see what the result is....
