F1 racing
With the release of the F103RM and the F103R due next month i just wanted to see if there are is any F1 racing happening . I am in SE Vic so i am interested in Vic racing but would like to hear from you guys all over OZ .
Post pics of your cars , set ups , chassis etc and any handy tips you have , also rules that have been adopted by your clubs for this class .There is a thread on RCTech already but thought this would be more appropriate for us Aussies , especially when it comes to buying parts etc .
I myself will be buying the F103R when it comes out next month to bash around but would be great if a class took off in Vic .

We have a healthy f1 class at Bayswater in W.A. usually 6 to8 cars in a variety of makes (103's, cross, duratrax). Good fun and and getting faster, we have a 19 turn limit and race fortnightly. The track used to be nitro only but noise restrictions and uncooperative neighbors meant an end to their fun,so now its electric only and thriving

Up here in Sydney at SMA we are running F1, pretty much any F1 chassis. Im running the Corally New Gen F1 on Foam, a couple others run F201's on rubber.
Any F1 looks cool on the race track.

F103R will be 15400yen from RCChamp (+shipping), they are saying it will be released in Decemberish, although I did read 28th of November in the F103 thread in Electric Onroad.
I'm probably maybe definitely going to get one, so there is is 6-9 cars at Baysie

That Corally F1 looks great and must get around the track pretty good , are you using saddle lipos and what foams are you using .Being based on the 1/12 car it must be the best handling car of the lot but probably the most expensive as well .
Can you buy the Corally in OZ and what about the F103 can that be bought in OZ , any prices .
The way the OZ dollar is at the moment might actually be cheaper to buy locally .

Sweet , thanks .
You should try the Jaco world gt spec tire out . Think it's lilac compound grips good on outdoor asphalt and lasts a long time .The rims that the foams are on have a carbon fibre look to them .
Could you PM me the price of the corally F1 as i couldn't find a price on the corally site .

Hey.
At the Boronia RC car club we will be starting an F1 class for 2009.
so far the rules we have put to the committee is pretty much just box stock F1's for the first season except for gearing, open tyres and possibly thinking of changing the center shock to an open one (any oil filled shock). And we will be using sport tuned motors. We have at least 8-10 people ready to race for it next year which will be good.
Possibley for the 2nd season of 2009 will open up the rules to any hop ups.

Sweet Boronia is a nice but technical track , wonder if TFTR will be starting a class as well ?
Do you sell parts for the F103 and will you be selling the F103R when it comes out , might drop into the store and have a chat .

You will prolly find that the 17.5 turn motors are better for this class or mayb the 13.5s. 10.5 looks good but I don't think everyone will be able to handle that kind of power with 2WD. Its better for the class if everyone can get sorted and not become a speedhump for the fast guys.
They look sweet though....

I agree with troy, 10.5 might be OK on large tracks but I think the class would be more accessible if the norm was either 540, sports tuned, or 17.5. As BK said at our club we have mainly 201s running 13.5 and his Corally, I'm keen to get an F103R but I think we'll need to look at parity between the 2wds and 4wds so I was thinking 17.5 for the 2wds and 21.5 for 4wds
Personally back in the day I always had fun with a silver can so wouldn't complain about just running them or sports tuned, not sure how much support that idea will get though

Before the point score for F1 started at SMA I ran a silver can in the F201 and it was painfully slow, pretty much full throttle the whole track, but it it gets more cars on the grid its an alternative.

From memory 27t stock motors was the pick back in the day so 17.5s could be a good compromise. When I get a 103 I'll try the rubber tyres, they should work better at night compared to BKs foams

Yeah it is technical but its a lot of fun when the 103's are set up good around there. I'm guessing they will fit us in at TFTR if theres enough racing them, if not they might put us in with the minis or something.
I have been bringing in the F103RM's. Ill probably get the R's in if i can get them at a decent price. i wanna get one for my self

Hi Guys..In Brisbane we are kicking F1 of again and are trying out the Hobbywing 3000 brushless system(the same as the Mini series is using)This is a cheap motor/ speedie..$115 from HarrisRC....this is slower than a 17.5 but bloody quick in a FI...I have an old Corrally FI and this system is great in it....worth a try guys...let me know what ya think.

Yep I was thinking they'de be a great option too, only prob is I've heard the ESCs are a bit flaky (hey for the price that still aint bad) so a lot of guys running them in mini use other brand escs. The class is taking off again big time in the states (it's back in TCS) so it'd be great to see it start back up here with a consistent set of rules

We tried a 3300 in the BMI GT10 car, and it was an absolute missile, at least on par to a 10.5 regular motor in the light pan car.
The Ezrun systems are cheap, but people generally want choices in brands etc, so i am thinking along the lines of 17.5 or 13.5
The 10.5 was awesome in the F103GT around whalan, but on smaller tracks for many drivers it will be a lot of motor.
