Default IPSWICH VINTAGE BUGGY SCENE

Here are some of the vintage buggies that made it to the QLD titles at Ipswich this weekend. Not sure if its a sign of things to come or not but I'd be happy to see more of these old girls turn up more often.

It was great to see the old girls going around, felt like I was back in the 1985, can't wait to finish my incident and give it a run.
Regards

I can't believe how well the old Tamiyas jump.

It was the landings that I had problems with.

Thanks for the cool pics Jason!

My experience on the weekend was that I ran the Hotshot with the original weak, slow Acoms servo and a stick radio. Original worn Tamiya block tyres and a 540 motor. In this guise it was surprisingly good to drive and even my 20 years away from sticks didn't show up that much. I did cheat and run an ESC rather than the old manual speedie (although I do have the original Hotshot one in working condition ) and I was running a 4300 stick pack.

With this setup the car was quite driveable but after two races I decided to try a better motor and the only thing I had was a 19t. Well I can tell you that it turned the car into an undriveable mess. Think I would have to try some modern tyres and a servo if I want to run anything better than a 540 in future - for the purpose of the class (more a demo than a race - although the racer in us always comes out ) I think 540 or at most stock is the way to go for future events.

If we get to do it regularly I am thinking we should go 2 classes. 1 up to Dec 1990 and 2. up to Dec 1993. I'm thinking we run a Vintage meet apart from the regular meets say once every couple of months where we can meet, show, discuss some memories, tell a few lies, swap and have a few races - I'll ask teh committee for permission once we get to the new premises.

I'm currently assembling a Kyosho Outlaw Raider Truck which is a 1990 release plastic Kyosho and I am keen to give that a run at some stage as well.

By the way I'm on the hunt for some Schumacher plastic slider drive shafts (2 pairs ) if anyone has any lying around and a pair of medium front Schumacher shocks and springs.

cheers, Heavy

Heavy thanks for those great heats leading up to the unofficial final.Mate I really enjoyed the fact your mobile was ringing in your pocket with that cheesy ring tone throughout the final. Its true, your hot shot was on fire for the first two runs and if it hadnt have been for the change of motor you could well have won the final with all the practise you were getting in.Stonzy was stoked to have been given a run of the PRO/BOSS too.Its unfortunate that Glens BOOMERANG busted its front end but Im looking forward to the next time we all meet.Should there be some kind of vintage meet every now and then I'll be there with even more old relics. Can you believe the NIKKO buggy? That was its first run ever and there are issues with the gearing and old plastic/rubber tyres but it suprisingly held up well enough for the days fun.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING IN ON SOME VINTAGE BUGGY RACING PLEASE GET ON BOARD,ITS A WHOLE LOT OF FUN!!!

Talking vintage

vintage racing is something that i would love to get into.unfortunately i live up near townsville and theres not many here that are keen.
i wouldnt know wether to run the rc10,astute,super astute, tomy intruder or go with the hotshot. RC10T2 would be too new?
champ rc is pre ordering the re re hotshot for about $150 Aus,pretty cheap id say.

the photos are tops, many thanks for posting them.

I reckon this bits what it's all about. The older I get, the better I was!!

As for the drive-ability thing, that's why we have restricted the Victorian contingent to the Black Tamiya ST motor. Better than 540, cheaper than stock and a whole lot of fun!! They are only just off a CO stock motor in performance - Check out mini racing. They go well with these motors.

See you guys in a couple of weeks up at Ipswich. Business trip. Must combine business and pleasure. My new life philosophy.
