Default Interest In New 1/10th Off-Road Track In Melbourne?

Was wondering if there was any interest in maybe pursuing the design and building of a 1/10th scale off-road track in northern Melbourne. I just want to get a feel for the level of interest before maybe trying to go to the next stage. I'm not wanting to go into direct competition with Keilor but co-exist as in the past when there were 2 off-road tracks in the vicinity and no problems.

Hope to get some constructive feedback.

Cheers

Shane

Would Mill Park or South Morang be suitable?

Cheers

Alex

I live in Mill Park so I'm all for a track there. And with all the facilities that the local council (City Of Whittlesea) have provided to other organisations (BMX track , skate parks etc.) it would be a travesty if there couldn't be room for a dedicated 1/10th off-road facility in the area. We'll see what the interest is like before we go forwards. I'll let you know as far as help goes. The more the merrier , I say!

Cheers

What I think I might do is come up with a track layout (using some spare work time) and then maybe scope out some potential sites.

If there are any suggestions for features that people might want to see in a new track , just forward them on

Cheers

I thought I'd use some "downtime" to have a preliminary crack at a track design. All criticism will be taken on-board , but remember it is only a first draft.

Hi dude
It looks good to me,go with it,and I'll come and race.
Just remember to have good water run off and you will have a winner.Choose a high spot of the track and build down ward from there and when it does rain the track will be ok in a few hours of drainage.
see ya timmey

Timmey,

With you an BG on Board, we could have a track down in no time! After Saturday though, Pete C/B and Simon would make it easier still. You keen for a dig this Sat @ Knox?

Shane,

Great Work.
Good luck convincing a council though! That will be the hardest part!

Timmey

The track will be 1/10 scale electric off-road.......I've seen what those 1/8 scale gas monsters do to a track (i.e. Keilor) so I think a return to the real racecars is in the winds

Neil

I'm fully aware that the council will be the worst part of this whole deal , but I only have to drive around the area to know that they have invested a fair bit of dough into other recreational pastimes (BMX , skateboards , etc.) so I'm figuring if we could get some space adjacent to one of these existing areas we might have some hope.....only time will tell

Cheers

Hi guys,

the more tracks in melbourne the merrier! In WA we found that having tracks near skate parks and BMX tracks reduced track damage significantly - who wants to ride around a rc track when there is a BMX track nearby?

I have been lucky enough to race at many tracks around the world and have lots of ideas on track layout if you want any assistance. I think you should find an area (ideally with some elevation changes for runoff but also to make the track more fun) and then design the track based on the available land geography. All of the most fun and challenging tracks I have raced on have had elevation changes.

Good luck with the council!

Now if only I could stay in the country long enough to actually race in Australia....
