When i first turn on my esc (with transmitter on first), the motor runs at maximum rpm untill it picks up the signal(i think?)
Is this normal? i have reset it several times but keeps occuring.

I too have to reset my fail safe again as well.

yea some of us run nitros as well so sometimes our recievers have the failsafe setting back to front due to the throttle servo brand or position.
now come to think about it not sure if this will effect the fail safe or not but its worth a try for him i believe its his fail safe setting because all spektrums have failsafe and if there is no signal in the rx then the fail safe will kick in

Interesting at the Summernats ... at least 4 13.5 motors died during racing. Looks like they are as reliable as the other Brushless motors
And a brushed motor won.
Although everyone agreed that the BL 13.5 was far quicker out of the corners but top speed was similar to brushed according to some drivers but others say they are quicker

Overgear a BL and they cook, to cook best it seems u need an LRP speedo lol.

Would like to have seen the winner compete on rubbers like the rest of the brushless brigade.
Not taking away anything from Damo's fabulous performance over the weekend, he was almost faultless. I know that the runs I had from the back of the field, I was passing plenty of brushed motors down the straight and doing donuts in the corners due poor setup. It would seem that some motors can take the gearing and some can't as I have been running over 40mm almost all the time with the motor coming off at 65 degrees or less.
All I can say is the motor did help a lot to gain the qualifying position I occupied.

At IMCC On Sunday 14th i ran 39mm + and the motor was fast no thermal etc.
Come Sunday morning for the Summernats i dropped down to 38.06 due to the higher temps and slightly heavier body that i had chosen to run. I ran the 38.06mm rollout all day no problem, i had no need to gear higher, i was 2nd all day and gearing higher was not going to catch Damo (the pole man). I also ran a fan attached the motor heatsink.
With pre glued tires and the bl... pit work pretty boring at my pit table lol
