Default buying/selling I.C cars overseas anyone had any problems

Just would like some opinions . Going to be bringing in a 1/5scale gas car from the UK which I purchased off ebay for a mate . Now my question is has anyone bought or sold a second hand I.C car from overseas did you have any problems with getting it into the country ?.

Just with all the tight security these days becuase of terrorists attacks I thaught that I may have abit of trouble being an internal combustion engine and dealing with petrol .

you obviously wouldnt send 'petrol', but i cant see why you would any problems logistically it wouldnt be any different to freighting anything else of that size... I would hate to think how much the freight on something like that would cost, but if you can afford to buy and race 5th sized stuff i'm sure that wouldnt be a problem

pay whatever you agree to but when he ships it, just tell him to class it as "toys" or "gift" and state the value under $900 just to be safe and you shouldnt get hit with tax. Anything over $1000 and you pay tax. Just check the customs website and it explains the tax brackets etc.

Yeh but if you have alook on the customs website the old labeled as a gift idea doesn't fly anymore the person recieving the gift is classified as the importer . It will also be insured for the full amount to which will be on the paper work .

Or hobby parts.......

anyway, if going to do it by the book, be prepared to pay tax if the cost is stated over $1000. Ive been slugged by them and its not cheap. I ordered AU$780.00 worth from towerhobbies (back when the dollar was worth jack all) and i got slammed with a AU$235.00 bill which includes tax, admin charge, delivery fees - from customs to post depo. I complained about it and they said "you want it? pay the fee." so i did.

I ordered AU$780.00.....

This was back in the day when the import limit was AU$500.00. Its now changed to AU$1000.00. rules may have changed since then too.
