Default Designing new track... Ideas?????

We are about to build a new track in Lismore (Nth'n NSW). We want some ideas on what to and what not to do. We have just about secured a site that is part of a sporting complex, it is outdoors has a club house/canteen and has amenities less than 50m from the proposed track, there is power already at the site. The site is 4 old clay tennis courts that were built more than 50 years ago and have been unused for a very long period of time. The site is semi commercial but there are still several houses in close proximity to the area, because of this we are unsure whether or not the resident would object to the noise of nitro cars. We are moving our exiting club, along with timing equip. etc. from Casino.

We would like suggestions on

Track surface (outdoor and is in a flood area)

Curbing options

We would also like to see some track designs or if anyone would like to put up their favorite corners hand drawn we would appreciate it.

Cheers Andrew

Is this offroad or onroad? Do you have to get council approval for noise regulations if you want to run nitro?

It will be an onroad track initially, There is room for an off road track in the future. We are not sure on what the council will rule on the noise restrictions, we have only had preliminary talks with them, but their first reactions were very positive.

Re curbing options....have a look at the curbs on the Gold Coast track....they are pretty darn good.

Just my thoughts of course, if you are designing from scratch maybe some boards thrown around to make several differant layouts and a lot of practice over a weekend.

When you find all the bits and pieces about the tracks you like then lay it out and run it for a club day.

This will iron out any bugs etc in the track and you will then be able to decide the final layout.

Don't just design it then lay it and when ppl arn't happy with it say oh well.

Like i said, just my .02c worth.

Yeah I here the curbs up there a pretty darn sweet.. Hopefully Darren, Tom, Rod and I should make it up there soon for a run. What about some favorite corners people, you know the corner or section on a track that is a challenge but so awsome when you get it rite. If your embarressed by your drawing ability, send them via PM. lol

I suppose it depends on whether you are paving an area then making a track on it (like that track in the link provided). Or whether you will be paving just the track with unpaved runoff. If your paving the whole area, then go with the boards idea, and once it's all good, make it more permanent.

Personally, it's gotta have a nice long straight for the nitros. A hairpin, sweeper and opening and closing radius corners. If I get a chance, I'll knock up some drawings of some corners tonight.

Default corners

Gday, if you are starting from scratch, have a look at the corner at Coffs, the one at the end of the return straight coming towards the drivers stand. it comes up a bit of a hill, then a tight left followed by a tight right and then left, it can be taken n..e..a..r..l..y.. straight and has a dip like the Bathurst dipper. Best corner on any track in Aussie, ask some of the Casino boys, they know it well

Thumbs up

Bob
yes that corner is awsome at coffs just haven't been back as yet to give it another go.
We will keep every body updated on whats going on at present all the paper work is at council and should be early jan we start thing rolling.
The facility is 6 tennis courts fenced , provisions for lighting (the poles and wiring still there) huge Canteen and toilets (only 2) public toilets 15mts away. so it's a move in the right direction for the club.
For those people who haven't raced at our casino complex a few stats:
Quickest lap Mod 11.157
Stock 11.278
540 12.785
Most Laps at a club meeting 540 28
Stock 31

50 years of PACKED RED CLAY.. and you want to put some pavment on it....

That shit would blue groove in 4 packs.

Honestly.. just lay some fire hose down and bring out the buggies, offroad is the biggest class these days and the most fun.

Onroad has gone the way of 12th.

Any offraod guys like to travel, so you would have a lot of guys coming from all over to race.. I Would come to your opening meet.
