Micheal,

I havent been to an interstaste challenge for a very long time, however they were always a little contraversial - guess nothing has changed!!

I would like to say what a pleasure it is to race with the guys like we did on Sunday. Clean, (for the most part), fast racing. I would rather loose a hard fought race cleany than win one that had been affected by forceful driving. It seems to me though that for the most part - stock drivers have have cleaned up quite alot compared to what they were in the old days. I enjoyed racing on the weekend cause it was super close and enjoyable. I will get you one day ashleigh - just need more track time!! (and to stop brainfarting at critical moments)

Again - awesome weekend, superb organisation, how good is Mav - 10 minutes for the finals to be posted and everything done before 4.30...mate - what a legend.

And yes Mick - I am partial to a Mav style hug - just not the "dangerzone" type - I will leave the witches hat frivolities to him!!

Cheers

Darryn

Why no computer supplies? If they weren't compliant with whatever standard they wouldn't be allowed in computers. Noone wants a computer blowing up in their office in the middle of the night and burning down a building.

I guess there are arguments for and against for a lot of things but that's the Regs and CH are implementing them for their event for the safety of all concerned.
As far as our Club is concerned, it is up to the committee, but at some point, whether for insurance, safety or complicity reasons, we will have to implement a similar approach at some stage.

I thought the explanation made sense, the non-allowance of the use of a computer supply is because the supply wasn't designed for the application, like you say, in the pc, they're safe and they dont blow up, but being pulled out of a pc, and used for charging packs at high amps, i dont trust them, and its obvious others don't either

No, it doesn't make any sense at all. Battery charging is not high current. Computer power supplies are designed for much higher current. Like over 40 amps these days, show me a hobby one that's capable of that. They have all the overload and short circuit protection aswell.
The computer running the club website has been running 24/7 for about 5 years on the one (17 amp) power supply.

Should be called the nanny state titles.

I agree. There is no difference between the 12v a PC PSU outputs, and the 12v a Jaycar/DSE/Whatever supply will output. The compact AC adaptor inside my Imax charger is probably inferior to any half-decent computer power supply, and
has more of a chance of causing problems because it gets damn hot.

I say let anyone run what they want, as long as its on a surge board or something with a circuit breaker in it.

I wonder if they are going to ban those NIMH discharge racks with 20 12v globes on them. Much more of a fire risk than a PC power supply.

Col, here is a setup posted by Chedda Bob, a bloke who makes loads of parts for the T4, and is known to have a pretty quick set up... Just use it as a guide, no guarantees its the best there is..

Code:
Front:
shocks: #2 piston, blue springs, 5 limiters, 35wt oil, middle hole on the tower, inside on the arm.

camber links: outside w/ 1 washer on the tower, inside on the hub. 2 bumpsteer washers and the spindles in the middle

Rear:
shocks: #1 piston, green springs, 2 limiters, 27.5wt oil, inside hole on the tower, inside on arm.

links: inside on u-brace w/ 1 washer, middle hole on hub, hubs middle, 2* anti squat

notes: b44 rear hubs, 4 degrees of total toe in rear via my steel 4* squat block, 1/4 oz in each rear pocket of chassis, lipo weighs 8oz... no extra weight in vehicle, anywhere! truck is all graphite w/ plastic chassis.

What about soldering irons, they're the most dangerous thing on a pit table. Gonna get banned too?

Mikey pretty much summed up why these PSU's can't be used, they are not purpose built for the application. I remeber having this discussion a while ago now and that was the main reason they could not be made compliant.

To be fair, these PSU's are probably better at supplying the power as they are regulated, not switch mode, which means more stable.

The other problem is not about the low voltage output, but the 240V input. The cases have a tendency to be able to become live, giving the poor operator a little bit of a buzz! I don't understand how, but did happen to me a while ago.

Anyway, to Gavin, mate thankyou very much for doing this tagging, very much appreciated. You are a good apple in the world of R/C.

Also many thanks to Tank for setting up the computer and Chris for getting the results out.

Thanks Marg for the beautiful running the the day, and thankyou Bob for the scrutineering.

Regards
Tom.

Thanks Mitchee, give me somewhere to start. Found another one as well so i'll look at both. T4 will be ready for this weekend, looks to be good weather too.
