Default Nitro Car?

Hey to all you petrol heads out there,

I have been racing electric for a while now and have decided to give up racing and have a go at nitro. I would appreciate any input and would like some advice to which car would suit a nitro noob?

Thanking you in advance,

Gav

What are you thinking? on road or off. For my money you cant go past 1/8 buggies, fast sleek and a heap of fun. Check out the hobao hyper 8.

I was wondering whether shaft or belt drive is the way to go?

Hobby Habit have a good deal on Hobao GPX-4's, which is what everyone who races onroad nitro there uses.

They're racing tomorrow indoors, go down and check it out

The $599. I like to support the locals who are spending the time, money and effort to provide a place for us to race.

if you are experienced at rc racing and seting up a car in general you should get a good racing chassis like g4s, serpent720, mtx4 or rrr kyosho, depending on which is easier to get parts for.
these will be the most rewarding to run once you get the hang of the switch to nitro
cheers

I agree

If i were in your position i'd go for either the RRR or the MTX4.
I think these two are the best at the moment, parts for the mtx4 are not hard to get the RRR parts are a little harder but still easy.

Just my opinion hope this helps

Brian

I have a Thunder Tiger TS4N Pro and I'm very happy with it (3rd nitro tourer). Its lighter than the Hobao and the .12BX pro has excellent mid range and starts on the first pull. Its belt drive and has quite a few hotup parts available. Plus you can get the ARR for around $400, get a decent radio and a few minor updates and you have a pretty competitive little 1/10 car.

you can try barry at online hobbies, he is the man to talk to in sydney,
the kit is $600-$650aud for a mtx4 and barry has everything in stock parts wise, or if he doesnt he can have it in in a day or 2. dont know about other online shops though.
i think the rrr is more expensive
as for motors it depends on which one you choose, but for bang for your buck its hard to go past an OS TZ 3 or 5 port
cheers

I too will vouch for the quality of Kyosho's nitro cars. I run an FW05R, with a FW05S before that. Both have proven to be solid, reliable cars with parts readily available. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think it was a Kyosho RRR that won the World's warm-up a Brendale recently?
