Default Women and RC - Tips n Tricks

Ok Boys,

Going off a previous discussion, how do you guys that are married, or have long term partner manage to get a full day (or even weekend) off to go racing?

How do you "soften" up your misses before telling her you racing all weekend?

Doing the ironing helps.

convince your spouse that it is a much better past-time than gambling

and you are spending so time on the hobby that you are unlikely to ever stray ...

That is an excellent question. It makes it even more difficult when you have a 22 month old and a baby due in 4 weeks.
There is no easy answer, because if you spend too much time doing housework, lawns etc, you get accused off neglect because you are not spending time with your wife and kids.
If you don't do the housework, the place looks like shit and the wife ends up doing it. Then you get in trouble because she does all the housework and i am having fun playing with the kids.
The answer is 'balance'. I work on my car once everyone is in bed and I have "negotiated" a way to race on Tuesday nights at SMA (although i am anxious to race on Sunday as i had a poor meet on Tuesday).
Flowers are an old cliche but they work. Most guys are happy spending a few hundred dollars on car bits, but use some of that money ($20) on flowers once and a while and you will be driving so often you will get sick of it.
When and if you have kids, get the kids involved at an early age and then you have no alternative but to go car racing all the time.

I could almost write a novel about it.

In my house its the rule that the weekends are mine, and any family visiting etc is to be done on the weeknights, a compromise

Having said that I still try to keep one weekend day aside per month to do something with the missus. Usually I still end up going to the hobby shop on that day anyway

What works for me :

I just tell her to go shopping... Whilst she is happily on a spending spree i'm busy visiting hobby shops and at the track!
