Carbon Fibre filing

what is best type of file to use to file the battery cutouts on a carbon chassis to prevent the heatshrink from getting cut?

or would sand papaer be better?

i usually use a dremel, and i wear a paint mask (the type you get from bunnings that looks like a darth vadar mask) i use the highest filtering version. i also place a fan behind me to blow the dust away.

i do this outside, on the grass or somewhere that will blow the dust away fromt he home. i also then sand the chassis with weet and dry under water once i have done this. also sand the entire rectangle of the battery slot not just the long sides, also sand the short sides.

carbon fibre dust is cancerous so be bloody careful! and don;t do this if young kids play in the backyard

a "Bastard" files is the best because it gives you a nice straight cut and you dont have to worry about slipping

using a dremel is a health risk as the fibre particles fly every where very nasty use a mask out doors also you will never get the edges on the middel of the car straight cause you will need to angle the dremel to get it there.

I use a file in a bucket full of water. The water won't hurt anything and will stop any dust particles from reaching your lungs.

Relax dude, its probably a "California" thing

This was the warning on my Trinity Nitro fuel :

"This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm"

I have actually seen this on a few other RC products

Any product that contains lead or other heavy metals and has travelled through California will have that sticker on it.

Carbon Fibre is not in itself cancerous. But it can cause fibrosis like absestos can. The particles irritate the cells in your lungs and can create bad cells. The reason it is dangerous is because once it gets into your lungs it will never come out again just like fibreglass and asbestos.
