2014 12th Scale Tour of SEQ 26 Jan - 22Feb - 29 Mar

Round 2 Race Report.
After so many false starts with weather, round 2 had become round 1 2.0 and then it was looking questionable whether we would get a start at Logan as the weather gods were not looking favorable.
As luck would have it, the rain stayed away, the tempreture was cool, and for those who made the journey to the South Side of Town to race at the Logan Club were in for a real treat.
Rain earlier in the week meant that the track has been washed clean, and for the 12 scale guys, this meant super high grip and for some of us, like myself, it was too much grip as it made the car awfully twitchy.
This was not a problem for the front runners, but it did make for some really high wear on front tires. 3 sets seem to be the norm here, but rear wear was next to nothing.
Qualifying was a Tim, Clayton and Johnny show, the 3 of them were nose to tail the entire night, Tim getting the TQ in the end from Clayton and Johnny.
In the B group there were a couple of stand out performers, Brett Ryan came from pretty much no where with his car and driving from Sunny Coast and really showed his potential as a driver. Qualifying 9th but that could have been easily 6th as he was on a really fast low 22 lap run in Q3 but one mistake ended that for him.
The other was Nick Jamieson. Nick has never raced 12th scale, the most he has done with the car is a few laps standing on the pit wall around Brendale and Wynnum. His car is a Tamiya, not the easiest car to drive my any means. He was nowhere in Q1 and 2, and after some time spend with Leo La Spina and Tim Weier i think, reconfigured the geometry of the car and did a 22 lapper in Q3 to secure the 6th qualifying position.
Nick took home the encouragement award, and he was rather pleased with himself too.
Ray Griffiths 5th qualifyer and Richard Chun 8th were always there or there abouts Clinton Livingstone 4th was close but struggling with a new car and setup, and Paul Fayeh grabbed the last spot in the A main, something I am sure he wil be boasting about to his son Dominic who was unable to make the event due to other commitments.
Out top junior was Mason Garnett. He might have been the only junior racing, but he really did deserve to take this out anyway. He stayed out of the way of the faster drivers and slowly but surely worked on his lap times and driving, improving each and every round. He ran and competed every qualifier and every final, and finished 13th over all on the night. Oh and in the finals, he was lightning fast off the start line. Something he was happy to remind me of on the drive home, because he drove past me and beat me to turn 3 in 3 out of 3 finals.
So when it all comes down to what matters. Tim Weier was TQ, Johnny La Spina had the fastest lap. And they finished just about how they raced all night. Tim 1st, Johnny 2nd and Clayton 3rd. With Nick 4th, Clinton 5th, Brett 6th, Ray 7th, Scott 8th, Richard 9th, and Paul 10th.
And the best of the rest, Steve 11th, yours truly 12th, Mason 13th, Adrian 14th and Trevor 15th.
Bring on the next race meeting at Sunny Coast, round 1 2.0 Thank you to our sponsors, Trackside Rc, Contact, Bugle Boy Racing, J-Spec, Piston Energy Drink and Ultimate Automotive Detailing. And thank you to the logan club for putting on an awesome race meeting.
