As part of the Our Town Model Show MORCC will be hosting the Newcastle Grass Burn.

Format: 3 heats, 1 final. (All grid starts)
Classes: 2WD Buggy (Open Motor), 4WD Buggy (Open Motor), Stadium Truck, Pro-2 SCT, 4x4 SCT (Open Motor), Rookie (Kids and Beginners any 1/10th car) and Vintage (pretty relaxed but basically pre-1990 with no more power than 17.5 blinky as a guide).

Our Town Model Show Site (such that it is): http://www.ourtownms.com.au/index.cfm?menukey=1
Despite the fact the site looks dodgy this show attracts around 10,000 people a day over the two days usually. Frontline Hobbies is a major supporter of the show.

FAQ:
Q: Why are there no Stock classes? A: Because last year after practice all the Stock drivers went home and put Mods in. Driving on grass is easy.
Q: Are the Truck classes 10.5 blinky? A: Yes. Unless everyone revolts.
Q: What happened to the ultra-cool flyer you had last year? A: I haven't got around to modifying it for this year yet.
Q: How strict are your Vintage rules? A: Not at all. If it's old and not going fast enough to wreak everyone else's car, you're good.
Q: Aren't you blokes running a Nitro State Championships that month, how do you find the time? A: Yes we are, we just don't sleep.
Q: Will there be scrutineering? A: No. This is basically a demo club meeting, but it's fun, and we might get medallions for the winners or something.
Q: Do offroad cars work on grass? A: How old are you? Offroad started on grass, man. BITD grass was it!
Q: Has Daniel lost it? A: possibly.
Q: Can I come up and promote my Vintage meeting later in the year? A: Yes Mikey you can, so long as you bring a car to race.
Q: Why is there no sound on the video? A: The copyright holder didn't like us using Highway to the Danger Zone to promote RC car racing.
Q: Can we run a 2nd final if there is time? A: Sure, why not.

Can we run open motor in the truck classes also?
It would save us cooking our 10.5's just before the state titles.

However, ask the question on the MORCC forum. Most of the guys who'll want to run Truck classes will read there. If most Truck entrants want to go that way then we can. This is a meeting where we can ditch the regular structure if we want.

Pretty much.
If the Oversteer club is unable to procure a suitable grassy area for the event then the club heads agreed that the meet would then default back to Maitland hosting it at our track. (We inserted Oversteer in the roster ahead of Maitland seeing as they don't have a Club Series round.) The preparations should be beginning about now.

cheers. im just wondering how the entry numbers will be considering the majority of people will need to jump the F3 to essentially run on 'someone's backyard'.
great for oversteer to host an event and all, but maitland's gorgeous looking new layout would probably be far more appealing.
I could be wrong...

The Club Series and especially the Interclub Shield are about more than us just having a good race. They are about the spirit of interclub competition, and good relations between the clubs.
If you look at the EP ONR scene in NSW right now you will see a disparate mess of self interest and petty bickering between the clubs. There is a privately run state series, and it's run well with good intentions, but a large number of people boycott it because of philosophical differences, and there's always controversy over who gets to host rounds, etc. And then there's the State Championships that are never held on time and you never know where they are going to be... Then there's all the haters out there who don't like club A because their track is X, or club B because their surface is Y.
In contrast EP OFR in NSW is cohesive. We have a state series run consistently to AARCMCC rules. We have good relationships and good will between all the clubs. We have a roster for State Championships, and we give every AARCMCC club in the state who wants to be a part of the series a fair go.
Oversteer are the youngest club in our group. They have a high participation rate in EP OFR despite not having a permanent track. They're a good group with a lot of enthusiasm. It's worth encouraging their further participation. We could keep to ourselves and award these events based on who has the nicest facilities, but that would do nothing for building RC racing in NSW. Our sport is small, we should do all we can to grow it.
Now, as for racing in someone's backyard. To my mind grass is a valid surface for EP OFR, and with the recent change to the surface regs vote getting up, a potential surface for an AARCMCC State or National Championship again. Australian titles have been held on grass before, so have European Championships. Racing on grass requires a slightly different skill set, and it's a challenge I particularly enjoy. Offroad is all about adapting to natural surfaces and changing conditions. Variety is what it's all about.
With that in mind I think we should all embrace the opportunity to race somewhere new and support a young club finding its way in EP OFR.
