If there is the interest there and we can make up a heat why not.
OK how does this sound,
If at least 6 drivers post on this thread within the next week we will run 17.5 1/12.
This is how this series will be run, you guys have an idea I will listen.

I spoke to some European 12th guys about this not so long ago, they told me they were running 10.5 in a spec series but that there was almost no difference to Mod a lot of the time and that they really couldn't see the point in that.
I'm keen to try and push 17.5 at my club too, so I'm really hoping we can get enough support to run it in the series. Personally I need to run Mod or I won't improve, but when I started racing 12th I would have loved for there to have been a Stock class.

Michael actually ran 17.5 at Fairy Meadow on the weekend. They race 17.5 in the US, so I think it is ok. Another of the guys ran a 13.5 on the weekend too, he has been running it at our club meets and usually finishes top 3 even at Edgeworth where it is quite open, so I'm inclined to say start with 17.5.

Imagine if 1/12 scale had true novice/feeder class as I would think a 17.5 at 3.7v would be fairly soft compared to the lower winds, kv ratings etc.

If 17.5 1/12 is ok and I imagine the spurs and pinions would end up about the same size it would have to encourage newcomers to 1/12 without the mental speed of open or even 10,5.

People say 1/12th in the country comes and goes in waves, and they are right, but the reason that happens is because there is no feeder class. We have to attract racers from other classes who have little idea about pan cars to begin with. It would be a huge help if they were learning about their cars in a genuine initiate's class.
Rollout for a 17.5 should be around 100 mm or a little more, I've heard of people going as high as 120 mm, which sounds stupid, but there apparently aren't any issues.

Yes I have. I believe I ran it against you at SMA one day. It was noticably softer than the 10.5 and it even topped out on the sttaights but I was running gearing similar to my 10.5. It was very difficult to loop out with the 17.5. Its lack of power will help out newer drivers but it still has enough straight line to be fun.

I would tend to agree. At a track like SMA I gain about 1/2 sec per lap with a 5.5 vs a 10.5. However the run doesn't reflect that gain as you tend to drift more in and out of corners and make more errors. You have to be a very restrained driver to get any true advanatge over a 10.5. I stick with a 5.5 with minimal dynamic timing and aim to be fast where it counts rather than waer tires out twice as fast to be 0.1 seconds quicker down a straight. I actually agree with Brad in the thinking that 12th would be a better class if.limited to 10.5.

I think the idea of a feeder class for 1/12 is ok but i found when i started racing 1/12 with a 10.5 i could not get around the track well .as soon as i bolted in 5.5 turn in boom more downforce more grip more fun and easier to drive.
its been said before but if spec 1/12 comes in wont it dilute the class ,as it isn't raced much across Australia no Victorians and only a few fast south Australians.
if it aint broken don't fix it
