Just some Q's about the rules...

Are tyres open? If so do you have to run the same tyre from the start of Q to the end of F?

For mini motor rules you state that the motor "must" be modified for brushed. I think thats just a typo....

Under battery specs you state that lipo's must not be encased in shrink wrap. There are a handful of roar approved packs that fall under this title (shrink wrap over hard case). Are they suddenly not legal?

Cheers...

Hi there Dragonfire,
tyres are open , you must hand in up to two sets before qualifying, these can be interchanged within the qualifying period, ie, if you submit 2 sets of
32's thats what you use to qualify with.(all tyres submitted will be marked in scrutineering)
before finals commence you hand in 1 set of tyres to be used, these can be any tyre set but that is the only set allowed for finals, you also re submit the original qualifying sets( if these are not the same as used for the finals).
in the event of a damaged tyre or wheel in the finals round you can interchange between these sets only (at the race directors discretion)
the mini motor thing is a typo, (must NOT be modified)
As for the shrinkrap over hard case lipo's I will double check on that and get back to you, as from our last knowledge, this was not legal
thanks for your enquiry

So you could run qual with a one set of MM's and one set of Sorex and change between them as you see fit?

yes thats right , tyre brands are open but still limited to the amount of sets used
on the lipo side seems you are correct, shrink wrap is allowed over some hard cased lipos, as long as they are ROAR approved
hope this clarifies things for you

I'm glad to see that tyre quantities are controlled - and while I'd prefer to see the type of tyre/insert/wheel controlled as well, I understand it makes event management more difficult for a small club.

I wonder if it might be worth pre-empting an attempt to reach a gentlemen's agreement on a standard tyre - at least for the Modified guys. A high proportion of the Mod guys that might run at this event would come front interstate - and knowing what tyre to bring in advance could be very helpful. I know it would be for me, and I'd be very pleased to agree in advance a standard tyre.

cheers

Hence why I asked if you could have two different shoes... I would suck to be running a hard tyre if the weather was cool. You could keep it simple we all use the usual... sorex 36...

Tas in march we would need a tyre with a pretty wide operating temperature range to cover the possibilities. I'd be happy to go with sorex 36. note again, talking about gents agreement for mod class - just proposing it.

cheers

Hi there guys,
the original reason for no control tyre this year was to keep costs down, as you know that with tyre sets ranging from $45 + this can run up costs a fair bit ,as we do allow cross entering between some TC classes.
with this being said the idea of a gentlemans agreement for mod drivers could well be a possibility
last year we did have a control tyre (sorex 32's) and they seemed to handle the super stock class pretty well (there was no mod class last year)
with the track giving reasonably high grip and the warmer temps for us that time of year most local drivers use the 32's on their cars with sorex being the major brand
with our track, new tyres every round is no advantage as there is plenty of grip with used tyres also, hence another part of our decision not to go with a control tyre. this decision was not about giving local drivers an advantage, but more so to limit them having to pay extra for sets that they dont need.
there is plenty of time before the meet so there is time to look at this situation, are sorex 36's the choice you would go for? will discuss with the committee. with not many mod drivers in the club your input on this is appreciated , we would like to see as many drivers involved with these titles as we can
thanks ,Lee

Hi lee,

While there may not appear to be a great advantage with new tyres - when the mod guys get serious I think we'll find that there is a small difference. I agree completely with controlling number of sets.

The gents agreement is something that could be worked out much closer to the event between the guys wanting to run mod - I just wanted to pre-empt the possibility that we might talk about such an agreement. Personally I'd much prefer to race on an agreed standard tyre, and not need to worry about testing a variety of tyres and compounds.

Personally I'd opt for sorex 36 for mod - because all (most) of the mod guys are familiar with how they react - and they work in a really wide temperature range. if we happen to get some warm days, the mod guys will run out of rubber if we're on 32's.

As i said - not a big fuss needed at this stage - the guys that want to run mod can talk about it closer to the date.

cheers!
scott

Hi Scott,
I totally agree about the mod side with tyres , 32's probably wouldnt suit as an all round option,
I was merely trying to give an insight to any potential visitors in the other classes as to what tyres do work here,
we shall see how things progress with mod, I'm sure something can be sorted, lets face it we want the racing to be the focus
on another note , we are soon to commence some upgrades to our track,
if you find yourself free one racing weekend, would love to have someone of your experience to offer any advice
thanks, Lee
