Items lost in the post Alert
Just a heads up for anyone expecting items to and from Melbourne, who may not be aware of security breaches at the Australia Post centres.

Please consider this before reporting someone as a "bad trader" as it may be out of their control. When selling always retain the tracking # and hand the parcel over the counter not in a post box, the post office will then give you a lodgement receipt which is your proof of postage in the event of a Paypal claim.
For buyers, you need to consider whether the extra $3 for registered post (and $100 insurance) is worthwhile. Once the seller has posted the item, it's out of their hands. Unfortunately if your parcel is one of the hundreds stolen here, it's unlikely you will get your $ back from the seller (nor should you as it's not their fault) or from Australia Post without the registered insurance etc (If you read their fine print they wash their hands of this very nicely)
Keep in mind at all times, Australia Post is not a public service, it is a commercial entity with a goal to profit, and despite the large pay packets handed out to their managers as many of us have found recently, reliable post and customer service is no longer something we are getting. (Please don't take it out on the staffer behind the counter, they are probably just as p... off about it as you are)
Also consider using www.clickandsend.com.au which makes keeping the tracking info a lot easier.
