Default *Dirt racing @ "THE BULLRING"-Northeast Arkansas*

I would like to take the opportunity to announce something that will hopefully be very exciting for area racers. We are currently in the process of building an outdoor, red clay track. The track is an oval with an off-road infield. The overall dimensions are 80’x140’, with a 330’ drive line on the oval with 12’ lanes, and 10’ lanes on the off-road. The corners on the oval are slightly banked, with flat straightaways. The track is located just about 10 minutes South of Jonesboro on scenic Highway 163, and is situated on top of a hill on my cattle farm. The track will be called “The Bullring” RC Raceway, which should be fitting. (Thanks to Lynn Haskins for the idea on the name). Our goal is to offer a family friendly, fun racing atmosphere, good track conditions, and a variety of classes to suit just about anyone. Most of the dirt work is done , the driver’s stand is almost complete (driver’s stand will be 30’ in length, 7’ tall platform, and covered to help with the summer sun. Construction has been going pretty well (when we have actually been able to work between rains), and weather permitting, we hope to be ready to hold the first race in early June, with the emphasis on weather permitting. Scoring will be done with an AMB lap counting system, and transponders will be available for rent or purchase at the track. Racing will be on Sunday afternoons, twice a month, with the track opening for practice at 10:00 a.m. and racing beginning at 1:30 p.m. Entry fees will be $12 for the first class, and $8 for each additional class. The following classes will be offered each race day, with a class being recognized if 4 or more entries are present. This will be an electric only track. No nitro classes will be offered at this time. Electricity will be provided at the track, but racers will need to furnish their own pit table/chair and extension cord. Below is a list of classes:

Off-Road
Novice
Stock 2wd Short Course Truck
Modified 4wd Short Course Truck
1/8 Scale Electric Buggy

Oval
Short Course Late Model (2wd short course trucks with late model bodies)-this class looks like it is already shaping up to be really big!)
1/10 Scale Sprint
1/10 Scale 13.5 Late Model
1/8 Scale Electric Late Model

A complete set of class rules will be available soon at RC Hobbies in Jonesboro, and of course, at the track when we get up and running. I will try to take some photos of what has been done and post them here this week, and I will add new photos as construction progresses. If anyone has any questions, I can be reached by phone at RC Hobbies Tuesday-Friday 11-6, or Saturday 10-5 or by email zach@rchobbiesstore.com Of course, I will answer questions and post updates here on the forum as well. I think this will be the beginning of something very exciting and something that this immediate area has needed for a while. So let’s start the smack talk and get geared up for a FUN summer of dirt racing!

Here are some pics as promised, these were taken today with the surface having not been touched since the 7+ inches of rain that we received. The dirt is holding up surprisingly well. This weekend we will rework the entire surface, lay down all the pipes, and hopefully finish building/manicuring the jumps if the clay is dry enough underneath to smooth them.

Progress is looking great. Can't wait to burn up some tires and beat the crap out of my freshly painted body. Finally a track in Jonesboro that will be worth racing on and a track owner worth racing with. Best of luck to the Bullring and come on already, get off the computer and get that thing done already. LOL Dang RAIN!!!

Got to put in a full day out at the track today. Put a few finishing touches on the driver's stand, cleaned up all the scraps from the construction of it, and got quite a bit of pipe put down. Steadily plugging along!

I drove by the track yesterday afternoon, looks even after 2 inches of rain in 24 hrs on it. I got the metal for the roof of drivers stand and some other stuff we may need.

We must have just missed each other! I met you on the road when I was headed that way! I have to work today, but Todd is going to manicure the jumps if at all possible as far as the moisture in the clay goes, then tomorrow we will hopefully build the rest of the jumps and finish putting down the pipe for the off-road. I have a new secret weapon in the works for smoothing the oval that I am going to use Monday that should make it as smooth as a glass tabletop! We do need to get together and knock out that top on the stand before it gets too hot though.

Getting closer!

The West end of the track and turn 3&4 on the oval.

A shot of the double. The rain helped settle/pack the jumps. When it dries out, we will be able to finish manicuring them.

West end view from the driver's stand

East end view from driver's stand

I plan to spend Monday putting some finishing touches on the track and the driver's stand, as well as making preperations to hook up the receptacle panel so we will have some juice for charging,etc... Weather permitting, we should be ready to hold a race in just a few weeks. I will keep everyone updated and post an official schedule when I get it ironed out.

Looks like the rain did the jumps some good, not near as many clods as there was the other day when I took some test laps. I think I will charge up some more batteries and sneak down there and run a few more laps to ummmm help bust them up some more

OK guys, here is the tentative schedule for this year. I have been reluctant to announce an opening day until I was extremely confident that everything would be ready. This schedule will give us 10 race dates for this season, which is pretty good considering we are getting a late start. Next year we should hopefully be able to put about 15 dates or so on the calendar . This schedule works around all the holiday weekends for the remainder of the season as well. Some of these dates will become specials and/or trophy races as we get a little further along. I just wanted to get this out there so you guys can make plans to keep these dates open, cause we gotta race!!! On all race days, unless announced otherwise, the gates will open @ 10a.m. and racing will begin @1:30p.m. We will plan to run three qualifiers and a main on all race days as long as time allows. So, without further ado, here are the dates!

6/12
6/26
7/10
7/24
8/7
8/21
9/11
9/25
10/9
10/23

** IMPORTANT ** Also, for the first race date, we may not have transponders available for sale, and will have a very limited number to rent. The rentals will be on a first come, first served basis, so please plan accordingly. After that, we will soon have them for sale at the store and at the track. Daily transponder rental fee will be $10.
