There are plenty of people with 4x4's to run, I have an aftershock, but finding a common place that doesn't change is the issue. I have yet to run my 4x4 with anyone that also has one. But I've seen a lot of people coming in the shops that have friends they run with. I hear there are great places to do this in Research park, I just haven't had the time in the last few weeks.
hey man i'm in toney. i got a small track behind my house. i don't have a driver stand yet but i got a building i'm gonna tear down and try to make one out of. we are at the track alot. let me know if your ever out this way.
I am surprised at the lack of coordinated racing here in the area. I recently moved here from Michigan, although I didn't expect it to compare to Metro-Detroit area... there are a lot more people there, I guess I expected a bit more. Especially considering all the techy people in the area due to the Aerospace/Military presence and the rate at which this area is growing related to BRAC.
I was hoping to see some quicker progress over at RC Hobbies with the dirt track, but that project seems to have been lingering on for some time. I would also like to see the track morph from just an oval into an off road course.
Long term there is a plan to have an off-road track at RC_Hobbies. Getting RC to actually commit is the problem. There are several people who are interested in running dirt there again, but for some reason he is not wanting to do anything about it.
What kind of racing do you do? There is some organized on-road and oval racing. If you havnt yet, check out RC3racing.com. With the exception of the SHARC group, it is pretty much the on-road and oval group.
snake,
I guess when it boils down to it, I don't have room to talk, as I currently don't race anything....... doesn't mean I don't want to get into it (would prefer off road). I am more a hobbyist than anything else at the moment, but would like to simply "hang-out" with others will similar interests.
I don't to name names on this public site, but I work with B.D. (I am sure you can figure out whom that is). We have talked about it a couple times and last we did talk about this, he mentioned things were in limbo as the future of the on-road track was in question and there wasn't much going on. I haven't checked the site in a while, as I thought things were stagnant. I will try and make it out this weekend to the oval track..... we are moving so, I am not sure how free my schedule is.
By your user ID, am I to assume you are a Mustang guy? 94_snake = 1994 Cobra by chance?
Thanks for the update and reminder that I needed to check the site for the schedule.
Yeah, this past winter we were in limbo of what to do about on-road. Madison city took back over the tennis courts where we used to race, so we didnt really have a home. Hobbytown in Huntsville, has stepped up, and we are racing over there about every other week. The oval racing is once a month due to the quarter midgets, but it is a blast to say the least.
If you are wanting to get into the on-road scene, the cheapest way to do it would be the Tamiya Spec cars. They run them at Hobbytown, and you can buy the whole car kit for around $120. Put in your radio and servo and have some fun.

Hey, you named names! LOL.
Don't let this guy fool you......He has more R/C cars than the entire RC3 club combined! We just need to figure out a way to get him to actually start racing a few of them.
I too would love to see the dirt off-road track come back, but I don't have time to help with the track, so I won't complain about the pace at which it is coming along. It's an all-volunteer effort right now. Maybe it's time that RC3 had a meeting to discuss some work days in the dirt???
I know this thread hasnt had any posts for a while, but is there anyplace else in the Huntsville area? I live an hour south. I couldnt find anywhere to go just to drive. I dont really want all the hastle of racing. I did make a little d shaped flattrack here at my house. So if anyone is in the Marshall county area and just wants to play give me a holler...
Sparkzilla - I'm in Florence. It's about 60 miles west of Huntsville. We run offroad all year when weather permits. We normally race the last Sunday on the month.
