Racing at the Hobby Expo

Every year, an exhibition race is held at the Hobby Expo, pitting some of the best factory drivers against each other using spec cars. Each car is given the same motor, batteries, tires, and setup, with drivers allowed to do nothing but drive. Here is the temporary track that was set up for them to race on.

The batteries used in the races (all sport packs in stick form) are systematically charged on the bank of Ionic chargers, graciously supplied by Team Novak.

Even at a hobby show, Trackside's Scotty Ernst finds his way to the race director's booth. Folks, he's the hardest working guy in R/C racing!

Fun Stuff at the Expo

Auto Art Designs had some of the coolest things we'd ever seen created for a racing fan. How would you like a working shock absorber on your keychain, or a Formula 1 tape dispenser, or a disc brake clock? Take a look at what they have here, and visit them on the web at www.autoartmodels.com for more.

One of the most popular themes among die-cast models at the show this year were fire trucks and other law enforcement vehicles, so what better way to show off your company than to bring in the real thing? This is a brand-new FDNY fire truck, making a stop at the show on its way from the manufacturing plant to actual use in New York.

Who ya gonna call? Ecto-1!

Many of the modelling companies had military stuff on display this year.

This modified Nissan 300ZX is one of the cars being used in the upcoming street racing film The Fast and the Furious 2. For any fan of imports, this was a car worth checking out.
